About CATCH

CATCH (Citizens at City Hall) is a volunteer community group that encourages civic engagement in Hamilton. Our members attend and report on meetings of city councillors and other City committees, and carry out related research and activities.

  1. Join our email list and receive the regular CATCH news updates. Send us a email to join: CATCH@cogeco.ca.

  2. Come to one or more of the council meetings and talk to the CATCH monitor. We are usually located on the east side of the Council Chambers, at the section of the media counter that is closest to Main Street. Just ask if the person there is with CATCH and introduce yourself. You can watch the meeting just like any other citizen or you may be able to assist the CATCH monitor, and become more familiar with what she/he does.

  3. You can become a CATCH monitor and attend and record council meetings, including various committees. Most CATCH activists focus on one particular committee (they usually meet once every two weeks at a regular time and day). You should probably go through step 2 above first.

  4. We need people to transcribe tapes. This is time consuming but a task that can be taken up by someone who has difficulty attending meetings, or wants to limit their involvement to a few hours at a time. It would be helpful if you have a tape recorder and a computer.

  5. You can invite a CATCH member to talk to your group or organization.

  6. We are also hoping to do some research related to City issues, including the positive activities of municipal governments in other parts of Ontario. Let us know if you'd like to work on this aspect of our work, or just forward information you think might be of interest.
