Transportation Policy Papers Available Wednesday

The next steps in developing a new transportation master plan for Hamilton have been revealed. A letter sent out last week by the city has announced that twenty-three draft policy papers will be released on Wednesday for public review and comment. This will be followed by public meetings on September 7 at LIUNA Station and September 8 at Stoney Creek City Hall .
IBI consultants initiated the transportation study earlier this year and collected public input to guide the development of the policy papers. Their survey found strong support for improved public transit services. For example, when asked how the city should respond to traffic congestion only 16% supported any widening or expansion of roads. Instead, 82% agreed that " policies should discourage road expansion and instead promote a greater use of transit, walking, cycling and ride-sharing."
Similarly, only 4% supported the statement that "high levels of auto use are acceptable for Hamilton " and only 5% agreed that roads "should be expanded to accommodate all new development areas". The full survey results can be viewed at
