All-candidates Meetings
September 6, 2004

Voters in downtown Hamilton and Dundas will have at least a couple of opportunities to hear the candidates competing for city council seats in Wards 2 and 13. The first comes on Wednesday evening when Matt Jelly hosts a downtown walking tour starting at 5 pm on the second floor roof of Jackson Square .

Jelly is inviting the eleven Ward 2 candidates to address issues such as the arts and heritage buildings, the state of the core, and the concerns of downtown businesses. The public is invited along to hear the discussion and debate. Jelly was an unsuccessful mayoralty candidate last fall.

Voters in the downtown ward will have a more conventional opportunity to hear the candidates on Tuesday, September 14 in an all-candidates meeting at 7 pm in Hamilton City Hall. It is jointly sponsored by the Durand, North End, Stinson and Harbour West neighbourhood organizations.

Two nights later, on Thursday the 16th, the Dundas Star and the Dundas section of the Chamber of Commerce host the seven candidates seeking to replace Russ Powers as the Ward 13 representative. This all-candidates gathering starts at 7 pm in Dundas town hall.

Voting for the council seats is set for Friday, October 1, with advance polling taking place on Saturday, September 18. CATCH has asked each candidate to submit a biography and an identification of their three priorities, and has also asked them to tell us how they would have voted on several issues that have divided City Council over the past eight months. We will be posting their answers on our website early next week.
