A special meeting of city council has been called for tomorrow morning to discuss the issue of provincial funding for the victims of the recent storm-related flooding. The councillors will convene as a committee of the whole at 9:30 am. This will be followed by a special meeting of city council to ratify any decisions taken at the committee. Both meetings will take place in the council chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
Extensive flood damage occurred as a result of rainstorms on July 26 and August 19. The rainfall totals were not particularly unusual but they occurred over such a short period of time that city storm sewers were overwhelmed by the resulting runoff, especially in areas with high percentages of pavement and other impervious surfaces. Hamilton is now facing the threat of more heavy rainfall as the tail end of hurricane Katrina sweeps through Ontario.
