Fair Election Financing wins more support
August 29, 2006
CATCH's call for “fair election financing now” in Hamilton continues to generate interest and response. The Federation of Urban Neighbourhoods has reprinted the CATCH statement, describing it as “a worthwhile model for other communities across Ontario”. The statement is also being reprinted by the on-line magazine, Raise the Hammer (www.raisethehammer.org).
The call has been editorially endorsed by the Hamilton Community Newspapers chain of weekly papers. The editorial, titled “Fair Election Financing Rules Must be Adopted”, is printed in the Ancaster News, Dundas Star, Mountain News and Stoney Creek News. It can be viewed at http://www.ancasternews.com/an/viewpoint/viewpoint_645782.html.
CATCH continues to receive positive comments from readers of our email updates, as well as candidates. Over the next few weeks, we will be polling each candidate for councillor or mayor to obtain a formal response to our requests. The results will be posted by CATCH after the September 29 deadline for candidate registration.
CATCH meeting Thursday evening
Everyone interested in helping with the CATCH campaign for “Fair Election Financing Now” is invited to attend an organizational meeting on Thursday evening at 7:30 pm in Room 110 of City Hall. |
