Usually
meets:
Second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 9:30 am
Mandate:
To ensure the City of Hamilton meets or exceeds its obligations
as a Board of Health under the Health Protection and Promotion
Act, and in all matters relating to Public Health, Social Housing,
Homes for the Aged, and Social Services in order to promote well-being
and create opportunities to enhance the quality of life in our
community
Note that this committee was combined with the Community Services Committee for the last half of 2004 and called Public Health and Community Services Committee.
Specific
duties include:
- To
consider and recommend to Council on policy matters and emerging
issues related to Public Health, Employment and Financial Assistance,
Childrens Services, Homes for the Aged, Emergency Shelters,
Residential Care Facilities, Homelessness, and Social Housing
- To
consider and recommend to Council on health and social well-being
needs of the community according to the determinants of health
- To
provide advice and guidance to the Public Health and Community
Services Department including input to Departmental Strategic
Planning initiatives to ensure alignment with Councils
Mission, Vision, Values and Goals, and the Social Development
Strategy
- To
review and recommend for approval to Council the Public Health
and Community Services annual operating and capital budgets
and business plans related to Public Health, Employment and
Financial Assistance, Childrens Services, Homes for the
Aged, Emergency Shelters, Residential Care Facilities, Homelessness,
and Social Housing
- To
monitor the implementation of Public Health and Community Services
Programs in accordance with approved business plans
- To
receive delegations from the public and conduct public hearings
as required by statute and Council
